Reading - The most important skill there is!
In Year 1 we continue to prioritise developing reading skills through Read Write inc.
Over this second year of school children continue to practise phonics on a daily basis at school and will be building up their knowledge of sounds and their different spellings across the year. Their reading books will become longer and they will develop their comprehension skills and their ability to talk about their books.
Towards the end of year 1, children will be assessed on their knowledge of sounds and their ability to use and read them; this is called the Phonics Screening Check (PSC) and all children in England do this. This check helps us to track their progress as they move into year 2.
