The Hodbarrow Lighthouse.

At Haverigg Primary School we are proud to have the Lighthouse as our school emblem. We have strong connections to this wonderful structure. Here is a brief history!

The Hodbarrow Lighthouse was constructed in 1905. It was built to coincide with the completion of the Sea Wall (or Outer Barrier) which was constructed by The Hodbarrow Mining Company and completed the same year.

Under the earth, beneath the lighthouse, lies the highest grade iron ore in the world; mined at Hodbarrow between 1853 and 1968.

The Hodbarrow Lighthouse is constructed from cast iron and is one of only two lighthouses in the United Kingdom constructed in this way.

The Hodbarrow Lighthouse is the second lighthouse to be built. The original stone lighthouse was constructed on the inner barrier in 1866; it can still be seen today.

Our Values

We aim to teach the children at Haverigg Primary School how to behave well and to be considerate and self-disciplined individuals.

We highlight different values throughout the year to provide children with the language and understanding to maintain these values.
